Podcast #3 – The Golden Compass

Recorded 12/15/2007.  Hosted by John C. Snider and David Driscoll.

Show Notes:

The Golden Compass – We discuss Philip Pullman’s novel The Golden Compass (the first volume of the trilogy His Dark Materials), the feature film adaptation starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, and the controversy surrounding the story’s content.  We’ll analyze the protest organized by the Catholic League, and look at the reactions of other religious organizations and conservative pundits.

Visit the movie’s Official Website.

Buy His Dark Materials trilogy in unabridged audio, narrated by Philip Pullman himself – you won’t be sorry.  (This makes a great holiday gift, regardless of what the critics say!)

Read the Catholic League‘s protest manifesto, The Golden Compass: Agenda Unmasked – for free! (They’ll charge you “fi’ dollahs”.)

Holey Scripture – We introduce a new recurring segment, in which David exposes the inaccuracies, inconsistencies, contradictions (and sometimes downright cruelty) contained in so-called sacred texts.  In this first installment, he discusses “dust”.

Feedback – Email your comments to contact@americanfreethought.com and we might read ‘em on the air (attach “voicemails” in mp3 or wav format).

Discuss – We’ve set up a message board at Yahoo Groups.

Theme music by Body Found.
