I was just wondering why stealing crackers is a hate crime, but molesting children, ruining their childhood and possible destroying their faith isn't. Seems to me that they are upset over the wrong thing.

"When we start seeing death threats over a wishbone, then your comparison may be valid."

I think it's a very valid comparison. Especially because you, yourself, find the wishbone to be a particularly weak superstition. Do not forget that it was not that long ago when people still believed in fairies, witches, and sea monsters - and would fight or kill anyone who told them they were wrong about their beliefs.

Believing in wishes from bones just as silly as believing a medium (priest) can consecrate a wafer and it suddenly becomes the body of a savior. However symbolic and important this ritual may be to the followers of the church, it does not make the magic any more real than wishing while pulling on your bone. ;-)

John,

Jews for Jesus (and some other groups of a similar fringe) consider it a sin to type or spell out the name of God. (Yes, it's silly superstition, but so is pulling apart the wishbone of your Thanksgiving turkey or similar bird on the banquet board.)

Pax.

Anya,

By "G*d" do you mean "GOD"? If so, say so.

Now, if GOD is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, how can a mere college student steal Him? Besides, if GOD allows Himself (or a piece of Himself) to be "stolen", who are you to intervene?

Why can't you just admit that the cracker is a symbol, nothing more?
