Hammerheads for McCain, Unite!

You don’t have to be an idiot to vote for John McCain, but apparently it helps.  Some of these people are truly ig’nant.

Let John McCain’s ugly pandering to the Religious Right – which seems to have blown up in his face - stand as a lesson to all future politicians who think they can control the mobs.  Just eight years ago McCain rightly called the likes of Pat Robertson “agents of intolerance”, but in this election cycle, he has courted the “moral majority” with Biblical fervor, even going so far as to pick foreign policy expert (and witchhunting advocate) Sarah Palin as his running mate.

The thing is, John McCain isn’t really a religious man; anybody who payed attention to him prior to 2007 could tell that.  But now the bigotry and downright ignorance of his supporters has started to bite him on the ass.  Imagine getting booed at your own pep rally?

First, there’s the little old lady who accosted McCain at an October 10 rally.  She thinks Barack Obama is an Arab:

 Here’s her exact quote:  “I can’t trust Obama.  I… I have read about him, and he’s not… he’s not… he’s a… a… he’s an Arab.”

Well, really now, ma’am, have you truly “read” about Barack Obama?  And do you truly not know that “Arab” is an ethnicity while “Muslim” is a religious persuasion?  Do you not know there are Christian Arabs?  Boy did McCain flinch, and did you see how quickly he snatched that microphone away from her?  One might forgive a senile li’l ol’ lady who probably clutches her purse closer ever time she passes a black man on the street.  But what about the “Reverend” Arnold “I’m a Giant Dumbass” Conrad?  On October 11 (the very day after the “he’s an Arab” incident. Conrad offered up the following prayer for McCain:

Again, I quote: “There are millions of people around this world praying to their god – whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah – that his [McCain’s] opponent wins.”  Maybe somebody should clue-in the “Reverend” that “Hindu” and “Buddha” arent’ even gods!  (Does “Reverend” imply that the title holder has a degree, and might have learned about these things?)  For that matter, I’m not aware of any mass movement in Hindu or Buddhist circles to pray Barack Obama into office.

Sadly, this isn’t even the worst of it.  There’s also the rogue elements who like to yell “traitor!” and worse at McCain rallies.  McCain doesn’t have enough time or energy left to correct all these hammerheads and call them on their ignorance.  He has the tiger by the tail and all he can do now is hang on tight until election day.
