Keith Olbermann Is My Hero

When it comes to weeknight news commentary, MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann is my pick.  Olbermann is well-dressed, well-spoken, well-informed, smart, funny and passionate about his work.  Plus he’s up against Bill O’Reilly so he needs all the viewers he can get.  Anyway, check out his impassioned response to California voters who passed Proposition 8 (banning gay marriage via amendment to the state constitution):

I’m not gay (not that it should matter on stuff like this), but I share Olbermann’s bloodboiling outrage over bigoted buttinskis who want to put their g*ddamned noses in where they don’t belong.  Frankly, I’m convinced that this is just a bump in the road toward the eventual victory of full rights for gays and lesbians.  I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of the end of the power-lock these pious pinheads have had on our society for far too long.  I’m hopeful that Californians will repeal this amendment, perhaps as early as the next election cycle.  It would be nice if they could overturn this on their own without first resorting to the US Supreme Court.  Even so, with the recent foolishness in Florida and Arizona it looks like the Supremes will eventually have to rule on this issue.

My brother was telling me how ignorant Keith is and how he can’t stand Keith’s opinion in his news reporting. That’s when I told him I love Olbermann and I have his show season passed my TiVo. No surprise my brother voted for McCain.

My brother told me that no one who he asked that voted for Obama gave him a good reason why they voted for him. So I gave him 2 immediately and he said no, those don’t count. Makes me wonder what other good answers he got that he dismissed.

Can we get a billionaire to buy air time before a sporting event to play this clip?

Can we get some religious people to play this at their church?

I can’t say I’ve ever been a big fan of Olberman’s. Not for some particular ideological difference (I’m a liberal & and atheist) but simply because I tend to avoid any talking head whether he/she is on my side or not.

That being said, I absolutely loved this. He is a very well spoken guy and he put to words what I have only been able to express as growling and curse words.

The fact that CA passed Prop 8 (and my home state passed Prop 2) almost (almost!) puts a damper on my Election euphoria. I cannot believe that in 2008 we will elect an African American president but still there are people on both sides who would deny rights to an entire group of their fellow Americans, their fellow human beings. WTF!?

I’m not gay, but happily married. An Atheist myself, my wife is my opposite, a religious person. Though not a church goer. She loved this and agrees with me on this.

This video was terrific. I voted against 8, and it unfortunately passed, though not for my vote. I feel his frustration, and hope that there is the opportunity for me, and all those who voted against 8 to get another crack at it and make things right.

Thanks for posting this, which is Olbermann at his most articulate.

I’m grateful, too, because you guys have always been supportive to gay folks in an easy, natural, and caring way. As a middle-aged gay man, I am sad to say that such was seldom my experience when I was growing up in the Jesus-saturated South.

Living now in New England, I feel like I can breathe a bit more freely, but hearing you guys podcasting from the Atlanta area gives me hope that even in Dixie, there can be straight guys who are comfortable living with and supporting their gay brothers & lesbian sisters.

Great video and brings Olbermann back into my good graces. After his piling on Imus for what was clearly a First Amendment issue (if it were anything other the FCC would have made a move on it) disgusted me. The First Amendment should be paramount for all of us, and for him go after imus the way he did is unacceptable. Yes what Imus said was stupid, but was not hate speech, if it were the FCC would have taken care of him. So instead of trying to piggy-back and attach himself to the story Olbermann should have kept his trap shut and not infringed upon someone else’s first amendment right. Instead he fell into the knee jerk with the rest of the simps in a slow news cycle.

This is a very passionate speech and obviously well thought out and presented. I applaud him and all the attention he has brought to the subject along with the others Bill Maher comes to mind also his staements on Real Time were fantastic.

    Frrrrrrunkiss!
