On the discussion about atheists celebrating Christmas:

I think a lot of atheists celebrate Christmas simply because that is the time all of our families are able to get time off of work. We obviously want to spend time with our friends and families, the time we do that doesn’t need to have any religious or even national significance. December 25th happens to be a day most people in this country are available to gather.

As an atheist, I don’t particularly care what date it happens, and if our calendars are open around the winter solstice, I’ll make the trip, to see old friends or family who I haven’t seen in a while, and have a good time.

Hi,

I assume you’re talking about our discussion of the film There Will Be Blood? If so, point taken; however, I did say “spoiler alert” right before we mentioned, um, what we mentioned. And in fairness, this movie has been out for a year. Anyway, my apologies if I spoiled it for anyone. For what it’s worth, if you skip the segment 48:45 through 49:15 in this episode you can avoid spoilage. Thanks!

My recommendation for the kids for Christmas is a copy of Illustrated Stories from the Bible. by Paul Farrell, illustrated by Kathy Demchuck. Stories include: Elisha and the Bears; Jephtha's Daughter; Little Gershom's Penis; Uriah the Hittite; David's Census; Moses Helps God Understand; Slaughter Of the Midianites; Famine In Samaria; Where Giants Came From; Wives For the Benjamites; and When Jesus Drowned the Pigs.

GREAT recommendation with the entire George Hrab catalog... I got that for myself for xmas last year... :grin: He's got album #6 in the works... yippie.
