Rick F**king Warren???

What the hell is Barack Obama thinking?  Rick “The Purpose-Driven Hammerhead” Warren is going to deliver Obama’s inauguration invocation? (We could talk about why there’s an invocation to start with, but that’s another matter…)

Nevermind that Warren is America’s foremost baloney peddler.  He is also, among other things, one of the prominent persons active in promoting California’s Proposition 8 (which denied homosexuals the right to marry).

Pretty much everyone on the left is unhappy about this announcement, but Obama is defending it with a bunch of mealy-mouthed blither-blather about “coming together despite our differences.”  Well.  Had Warren been, say, a racist bigot, or a misogynistic pinhead, you can bet your sweet bippy Obama wouldn’t have touched him with a ten-meter cattleprod, much less invite him to deliver the inaugural invocation.  But no, you insist that gays be treated like second class citizens, and you get the plum assignment.

If it were up to me, there’d be no invocation at all, but given that it’s going to happen… how cool would it have been to get Bishop John Shelby Spong?  Or better yet, Bishop V. Gene Robinson.  My pick: Father Reginald Foster.  I mean, it’s all about coming together despite our differences, right?  And it’s the right-wing fundies who’ve held the stage for the last eight years.  Why not give the other side a whack at it?

I too am disappointed but I reserve my judgement of the man I voted for until he proves he didn’t deserve my vote.

    Go Obama.
