Obama’s Cairo Speech

I’m pressed for time today, but there’s lots I would like to say about President Obama’s speech in Cairo.  If you missed it, here’s a link to the text of the speech, which includes embedded analysis by a BBC commentator.

One Response to Obama’s Cairo Speech

  1. Matt W. says:

The biggest issue I had with the speech was when he brouht up the Treaty with Tripoli:

“In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, our second president, John Adams, wrote,

The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims. And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States.”

Why does the United States have in itself no character of enmity against Muslims? Just go back one line:

“As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen….”

Pick and choose, pick and choose.

I know the speech was geared towards Muslims, but he spoke about creating a world where “all God’s children are respected.”

What about the rest of us? Should we start building rocket ships?
