Better late than never

Waaay back on May 17th, the LA Times ran an op-ed called “Atheists: No God, no reason, just whining” by someone named Charlotte Allen, described as “the author of ‘The Human Christ: The Search for the Historical Jesus’ and a contributing editor to the Minding the Campus website of the Manhattan Institute.”  In short, Ms. Allen’s essay was just a big pile of crap; fact-challenged, illogical, and filled with ad hominems.  A few days later, the Times ran a scathing rebuttal by PZ Myers called “Why is Charlotte Allen so mad at atheists?

Why am I telling you about this now, nearly three months later?  Because over the weekend the Huffington Post ran another response to Allen’s essay, this one called “Dont, Please,” written by Landon Ross, a “Los Angeles based writer and artist.”  Better late than never, I suppose.  And while I give HuffPo a hard time for publishing Complimentary/Alternative Medicine claptrap in their wellness section, they do publish some good stuff as well.

  1. David says:

Great article, it is a bit late as most people probably don’t remember Charlotte Allen’s original piece, but it was well written.

  2. Was the HP URL intentionally made as text and not a link, to avoid increasing their page rank (out of S-CAM spite)? =P

  3. Born again,

Argh! Actually, no. That was where I pasted the URL into the draft of that post for later insertion. Then I forgot to delete it. So no, no spiting intended. Just sloppiness. :(
