Possibly the most important person you’ve never heard of died over the weekend: Norman Borlaug. Here’s a short tribute video posted by Danny Zepeda (Un Papa Esceptico), featuring Borlaug fans Penn & Teller.

They’re right- I’d never heard of him. Amazing. But most importantly, that’s 1 billion really saved, in a way that counts. Not just “saved” by missionaries for Jesus, or saved by the Pope from the “evils of condom use” in a AIDS-ridden society.
Thanks!
if you try to find anything about Norman and religion you just can’t. lots of people suspect he was at least an Agnostic if not an Atheist, or a simple non believer, there are no references or quotes of him taking about god or religion anywhere on the net so far! I think he did it because he just wanted to help people! that makes ONE OF KIND! and a good proof that you don’t need religion to be good!
“you can’t build a peace full world on empty stomachs and human misery”
Actually you can find lots of quotes about religion. He was a devout Lutheren and saw his work as something that Scripture demanded.
From one of his lectures:
The recognition that hunger and social strife are linked is not new, for it is evidenced by the Old Testament passage, “…and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their King and their God. …”
Then, by developing and applying the scientific and technological skills of the twentieth century for “the well-being of mankind throughout the world”, he may still see Isaiah’s prophesies come true: “… And the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose… And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water….”
And may these words come true!
