I've heard -- though I've not seen this confirmed -- that the Iraqis like these because they *don't* like using the most effective bomb detectors out there: dogs. Unclean, you know. My suggestion for the Iraqi general who praises these things is that we do the following test: we lock him in a garage with ten cars, one of which has a time bomb in the trunk with a two minute fuse. If he picks the right car, we let him out. Repeat 10 times for statistical significance.
