Here’s my next blog-a-book project. Starting June 14th, I’ll be blogging my thoughts chapter-by-chapter on Irshad Manji’s Allah, Liberty and Love: The Courage to Reconcile Faith and Freedom. Manji is the author of the highly influential The Trouble with Islam Today, one of the rare nonfiction books I read a second time immediately after finishing it the first time. Manji is an outspoken activist within the global Islamic community, arguing for reform of her religion. It’s a daunting project, one that has resulted in numerous death threats against Ms. Manji.
While Manji describes herself as a Muslim believer, I nonetheless consider her a fellow traveler, since she speaks out for love and tolerance, and against bigotry and violence.
