Pope to resign

Big news overnight from the Walking Dead: Pope Benedict XVI has announced he will resign at the end of February, presumably due to his frail health. No pope has resigned in nearly 600 years.

It’s probably too much to hope that the Roman Catholic Church will elect a more progressive successor–the church has been doubling down recently on conservative and retrograde policies. Getting the RCC to change direction is like steering a locomotive off the tracks with a pair of tweezers.
