jamesrandiAugust 7, 1928 – Magician and skeptic James Randi is born Randall James Hamilton Zwinge in Toronto, Canada. As “The Amazing Randi, ” he became a world-famous performer and escapist, known for numerous appearances on television, during which he frequently exposed psychics like Uri Geller and faith healers like Peter Popoff. Randi was one of the co-founders of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP, now the Committe for Scientific Inquiry (CSI)). In 1996, Randi founded the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF). He is a treasured speaker at the annual Amazing Meeting, and is the subject of the recent documentary An Honest Liar. He came out as gay in 2010.
