goraNovember 15, 1902 – Atheist activist and author Goparaju Ramachandra Rao (“Gora”) is born in Chhatrapur, British India. Along with his wife Saraswathi Gora, he founded India’s Atheist Centre, which still operates today. Gora wrote numerous books on atheist topics and was one of the founders of the first World Atheist Conference in 1972. He died in 1975, aged 72.

November 15, 1904 – Sex educator and humanist activist Lester A. Kirkendall is born. He was a co-founder of the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), and was named Humanist of the Year in 1983 by the American Humanist Association. He died in 1991, aged 87.

November 15, 2014 – AKM Shafiul Islam, a sociology professor at Rajshahi University in Bangladesh, is hacked to death by Islamic extremists for being an apostate and for prohibiting his female students to attend class wearing burkas.
