hermannjmuellerApril 5, 1967 - Geneticist Hermann J. Mueller dies in Indianapolis, Indiana, aged 76. He is best known for his work in identifying the genetic effects of radiation exposure, and in educating the public on the associated dangers of nuclear war.  He was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1946, and was named Humanist of the Year in 1963 by the American Humanist Association.

April 5, 2004Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism by Susan Jacoby is published by Metropolitan Books.
